Detours will be in place for the closure of:

  • Westbound lanes of the Western Distributor from the Cross City Tunnel exit to Pyrmont Bridge Road; and
  • Fig Street on-ramp to the Western Distributor (towards Sydney Harbour Bridge and City Centre via King St).

Runaway Half Marathon

With wet weather forecast and more than 19,000 people expected to take part in the Runaway Half Marathon on Sunday, 5 May, motorists and runners are urged to plan their journey.

Major roads will be closed along and surrounding the 21.1km and 10km course around the Sydney CBD and Pyrmont. Impacted roads could be closed to motorists from as early as 2am on the day of the event. Trains, buses and light rail services run regularly to the city and will get runners within walking distance of the start line on the Cahill Expressway at Bridge Street and Macquarie Street near Circular Quay.

Planned track work on the Sydney Trains network, including the City Circle line, may impact how you travel. The L2 and L3 Light rail services will be running an uplifted weekday timetable from 7am to 7pm on Saturday 4 and Sunday 5 May.

Motorists are encouraged to avoid non-essential travel in the CBD and Pyrmont areas during the event or allow plenty of extra travel time, with diversions in place and delays expected.

Essential trackwork

Passengers are urged to plan ahead this weekend, 11-12 May, as essential Rail Repair Plan trackwork continues to build a more resilient and reliable network.

Buses will replace trains due to planned trackwork on key sections of T1 North Shore & Western, T2 Inner West & Leppington, T5 Cumberland, and T9 Northern lines, as well as intercity services on the Central Coast & Newcastle Line and the Southern Highland Line.

From 9.30pm Friday and throughout the weekend, trains will not run on the City Circle, or between Central and Wynyard, this weekend. For travel around the city, passengers will need to use the light rail between Central and Circular Quay, or local bus services.

Information on additional public transport services can be found here.

Detailed information on affected lines and alternative travel options are available in our trackwork alert here.

Passengers should allow for plenty of extra travel time and check specific journey information by visiting transportnsw.info or using trip planning apps.
